Are You looking for Something Modern and Versatile?

    A crystal within a Crystal!

Large Lobster Claw allows you to attach to beads, or chains.

Like a diamond in the rough, Rutilated quartz was long disregarded by miners and mineral sorters as worthless. Only pure quartz was viewed as valuable and so this variety was seen as tainted.

Around the middle of the 20th century, however, this began to change. Fashion designers and collectors began to appreciate the ethereal beauty of rutilated quartz, sometimes likening its shimmering rutile threads to angel’s hair.

While the quartz in rutilated quartz can be either smoky or clear and sometimes even black, the color of the rutile inclusions will depend on their iron oxide content. When the iron oxide in rutile quartz is high, the inclusions take on redder and often golden tones. Such inclusions can look like hay or strands of golden hair. This is why golden rutilated quartz is often referred to as angel’s hair quartz

Shown here on Wish Bone Hand Made Chain Sold Separately.

Handmade in Santa Fe, NM since 1987.

    AURORA OPAL

Cultured Opals are a lab created stone.  It was a project started some 20 years ago by a turquoise fanatic and chemist.  Lab created opal is pretty but gets dull, and it just doesn’t really capture the light dispersement that real opals do.  This was because no one was really getting those silica dioxide particulars small enough to mimic Mother Nature.  The nano particles of silica dioxide are just the same as natural opal.  They are almost as small as an atom.  The matrix is a nod to turquoise and the two together are magic.  It takes about a year to grow.  It is more durable than natural opal and this makes this material ideal for rings and bracelets as detergents won’t hurt it.  It has a hardness of 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

    1 ¼"  including Lobster Claw

Great to collect for a charm bracelet or to wear as a necklace.

    ROSARITA

In the early 1940’s Gold Prices spiked.  As a result of the new high prices some prospectors revisited the old gold mines in places such as Colorado, California, and Alaska.  These crusty codgers would build brick kilns over open pits and super-heat that gold-bearing ore that still litters the sites.  The return was small and the practice only lasted about 5 years.  The beautiful red gold slag would run off down the mountains, and solidify into boulders of Brilliant Red and Orange, much like Obsidian is formed in volcanic reaction.  The material is durable and polishes to a beautiful shine.  We feel very blessed to have such a lovely earth element to work with.  Rosarita is the only material available in such a true red color.  Some pieces have swirls of orange and these are even more rare.  Rosarita was named after a beach in Mexico because of the brilliant color.

Our Black Jade comes from Wyoming. The interesting thing about black jade is that it is black all the way through. That’s not something you can say about other black stones. For instance, onyx tends to be dyed to get that rich black color. Black jade is found as a big vein of rock in the earth. Jade is a very hard stone and creates lasting color and shine.

Mother of pearl shell for jewelry refers to the nacre that coats the inside layer of the mollusk shell which is used to form pearls--hence, it's the mother of the pearl. Mother of pearl shell jewelry can include much larger focal pieces than simple pearls since nacre substance takes up a whole shell's interior, offering a larger working surface for carving. In addition to jewelry, mother-of-pearl shell has been used in medieval European, East Asian and Islamic religious art. Starting during the Victorian Era, mother-of-pearl shell began to also be used for clock faces, buttons, jewelry boxes and more. One especially popular use was inlay work, such as the handles of knives and pistols, as well as historical and contemporary use as inlays for guitars and other musical instruments.

Rosarita is a very rare material.

In the early 1940’s Gold Prices spiked.  As a result of the new high prices some Prospectors revisited the old gold mine areas in places such as Colorado, California, Alaska, etc.

These crusty codgers would build brick kilns over open pits and super-heat that gold-bearing ore that still litters the sites.  The return was small and the practice only lasted about 5 years.  The gold would sink to the bottom and the beautiful red gold slag would run off down the mountains, and solidify into boulders of Brilliant Red and Orange, much like Obsidian is formed in a volcanic reaction.

It is very rare, but we are lucky enough to have a nice collection.  The material is durable and readily polishes to a beautiful shine.  So far we have found no other information on it.  We feel very blessed to have such a lovely earth element to work with.  Rosarita is the only material available in such a true red color.  Some pieces have swirls of orange and these are even more rare.

Rosarita was named after a beach in Mexico because of the brilliant color.

The Kingman turquoise mine, in Arizona, is the last remaining commercially producing mine in the United States. Evidence suggests turquoise was mined in the surrounding areas dating as far back as 600 AD.

The mine where a piece of Turquoise was found—not its color, nor its matrix, which refers to the veins and patterns of the stone—is the primary factor in determining its value. Historically speaking, the finest turquoise came from the mountains of Asia. In the 20th century, however, the copper-rich American Southwest supplanted them as the primary source of rare, and valuable, specimens, including collector favorites such as Bisbee, Lander Blue, and Number 8 (Black Web). Tibetan Turquoise is highly prized.  Hubei also has some of the most beautiful natural Turquoise.

Blue Tyrone Turquoise Turquoise mining in the Burro Mountains near Silver City, New Mexico, has been going on since pre-historic times.  The Tyrone mine produced great quantities of hard, deep and bright turquoise as well as pale spring green turquoise.   "Turquoise John" or John Coleman, is credited with the modern unearthing of Turquoise in this area.  It is said he discovered some of the old mining activities while he was on a hunting trip in 1875.  Research resulted in the discovery of the ancient excavations. The mine hasn't produced any turquoise since the 80's.  This turquoise is highly collectible.
